Knockholt Section Meeting - Thursday 25 June 2009

The perfect combination. A balmy evening in late June and a Kentish pub with a great setup for showing our cars.
The venue was the Three Horseshoes in Knockholt village situated between Orpington and Sevenoaks in north east Kent and has played host to our mid-summer section meet for several years now. If it was more centrally placed in our sections area the pub would be a more regular venue. The pub’s governor is a car enthusiast and the layout lends itself to showing the cars to their best advantage with most of the cars being able to line up directly in front of the pub. This encourages everyone to stay out front and a great atmosphere ensues.

This venue gets better every year and we welcomed at least three new members, Hadyn who’s S3 spider had exhaust trouble just prior to the event, Simon with his S4 Spider who Jack and I met at the Bromley Pageant, as well as another gent we also met there with a 147. Also present was Jeff Kaby’s mate Dave. We also saw a couple of occasional visitors including Paul in his nice 156 GTA, Brad is his 33 and Ray Blake in his recently acquired Berlina painted up in racing colours – very nice.

Jeff Kaby generously donated a nice framed print of racing 155’s which was put up for raffle. The winner proved to be a regular pub customer who seemed pleased with his win. However he was later tempted by a fistful of drinks tokens to part with his prize and the picture is now in the hands of Jack Hodson who of course owns a nice 155 Q4.

To add a little drama, disaster was narrowly averted when Giovanni’s newly restored Giulia GTV appeared to slip it’s handbrake and started to roll out into the passing traffic and was only saved by the squeal of a member female companion.

A great meet and I can’t wait for next year. Doug Hodson
