Next section meeting - Thursday 29 June at The Three Horseshoes, Knockholt

Britten’s Parade at Brands Hatch - Sunday 5th August 2012

Our section had an excellent day at the Brands Hatch Circuit on 5th August, we had been invited to display our Alfa’s in the Britten’s Parade, 15 cars were allowed, but we managed to add another 2 to the display, the weather was dry when we first arrived and there was plenty of time to admire and chat around the cars, some members went for breakfast in the Kentagon.

The decision was then made to visit the pits where we had been invited by Graham Heels to talk to the drivers and crews of the ARCA racing teams, who had practice + 2 races on the Sunday (they had also been in action on the Saturday) very friendly people and interesting to talk to, we also chatted to Michael Lindsey.

It was lucky that all the Spider drivers had decided to put their roofs up, as it poured with rain when we were in the pits, but stopped before we were ready to go back to the cars.

We had arranged with Alex Shaw to do a 2 lap tour of the circuit which took place during the lunch break, so, Spiders tops down again and a most enjoyable 2 laps behind the pace car, then back to our display area.

We had been given lunch vouchers, so free lunches for us all in the Kentagon.

After lunch we made use of the VIP viewing area for which there were free passes with the package, here there was plenty of tea & coffee on the go and we could open the windows to view the racing, all the Alfa’s gave great racing as did the Ford Fiesta’s.

There was time to look around the souvenir shop before heading home, all having had a really good day.

A big thank you to James Rawlinson who invited us to this event and arranged for the free passes, also to Judith Hibbins & team in registration, Alex Shaw for the parade laps and to Graham Heels for the invitation to visit the pit crew, also thanks to everyone at the Brands Hatch Circuit.

Jeff Kaby, AROCKES Secretary.
